SETH MACFARLANE TO PERFORM AT THE NEW YORK COMEDY FESTIVAL “Behind the Scenes of “Family Guy” & “American Dad”
New York, NY (August 27, 2007) — The New York Comedy Festival (NYCF) is proud to present “Seth MacFarlane: Behind the Scenes of ‘Family Guy’ and ‘American Dad.’” The creator, producer and voices of Peter, Stewie and Brian Griffin will take the stage on Sunday, November 11 at 7 pm at Avery Fisher Hall at the Lincoln Center. The evening is guaranteed to provide tons of laughs as MacFarlane presents the crowd with an all exclusive backstage pass to his hit TV shows!
One of the youngest people ever to create a television series, Seth MacFarlane began his career studying animation and design at the Rhode Island School of Design, where he created the animated short film "The Life of Larry." Impressed executives at Hanna-Barbera encouraged MacFarlane to move to Los Angeles in 1995 to create and direct a short film for them. After moving to L.A., he went on to work on numerous animated series, including "Ace Ventura," "Jungle Cubs" and "Johnny Bravo."
MacFarlane's big break came when the producers of MADtv discovered "The Life of Larry" and approached him to air it as four short segments. Although that deal fell apart, executives at FOX recognized his talent and gave him a shot to create a primetime animated series of his own. Over the next six months, MacFarlane created, animated, wrote, directed and provided all the main male characters' voices for what became FAMILY GUY. Utilizing all his contacts, friends and resources to produce the seven-minute short, he delivered it in May 1998 and just weeks later it was picked up. MacFarlane went on to receive an Emmy Award for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance for his role as Stewie Griffin, and FAMILY GUY has garnered three nominations for Outstanding Animated Series. In 2002, he also received an Emmy for Outstanding Music and Lyrics for FAMILY GUY.
MacFarlane also serves as co-creator/executive producer/voice actor on the FOX animated series AMERICAN DAD. His additional television credits include serving as executive producer on “The Winner,” consulting producer on “The Pitts” and guest-starring roles on “The War at Home,” “Gilmore Girls,” “Help Me Help You,” “Star Trek Enterprise,” “Aqua Teen Hunger Force,” and “Robot Chicken.”
The Fourth Annual NYCF’s roster also includes celebrated comics Rosie O’Donnell performing at Avery Fisher Hall on November 6; Sarah Silverman performing at Carnegie Hall on November 7; Denis Leary at the Beacon Theatre on November 8; Louis CK at Town Hall on November 8; Artie Lange at Town Hall on November 9; Damon Wayans at the Beacon Theatre on November 9 and Bill Maher at the Beacon Theatre on November 10.
The 2007 NYCF is presented by Carolines on Broadway and The Alliance Agency, American Express, exclusive broadcast partners WNYW/Fox 5 and WWOR/My9 New York, internet media sponsor MySpace.com, The New York Post and Time Out New York.
